Continuing around to the checkout stand - I have to
say the food was reasonably priced for a theme park ($8.95 buys
you a half-chicken, a generous helping of garlic seasoned potatoes
and corn on the cob)... and even in the most commercial area of
the Cafe, it's still all trademark Universal expressionism - from
the stonework pattern on the dungeon walls to the window bars being
askew and not parallel... |
|
The bubbling flasks, jars and lab equipment on top
of the condiment stand... again, looking as if it were taken right
off the set... There were two of these displays, each positioned
at the two different entrances to the themed eating areas... I thought
this would have been even better if they would have used the concept
for the beverage fountain, dispensing the various sodas and drinks,
etc. thru the tubes right into your cup. |

The entranceway to Dracula's Mansion, one of the six
Unimonster-themed eating areas, or "sets" as referred to in the
Cafe literature... This is actually looking thru the far end of
the Mummy's Tomb area, check out the leather "wrap" styling
on the chairs... As you walked toward the Mansion entrance, the
Phantom and Invisible Man sort of had their own corner to your left,
with posters, stills, etc. including an Invisible Man display head
by Dr. Lady... |

"I bid you vel-come..." to Dracula's Mansion.
Television monitors (there are many) were located all throughout
the Cafe, and eternally playing either clips or trailers from the
Classic Universal Monster Films, a montage of still images made
exclusively for the Cafe, or - my particular favorite - some clips
from the films that featured the characters eating and drinking,
such as the "I never drink... vine!" segment from Dracula or
the "Breaaad... goooood!!!" blind hermit sequence from Bride.
A nice touch... |

The view away from the booth, looking into Dracula's
Mansion area... adorning the walls were numerous publicity and behind
the scenes stills, including framed sketches of the classic castle/abbey
set designs! ...and yes, everything's securely fastened to the walls!!
; ) Outside the draped doors, there's an outdoor patio area which
can be used for parties and special events... but as for me, I'm
stayin' inside! |
